Infoseek is a noteworthy entity in the history of internet[3] search engines. Launched in January 1994 as a paid service, it evolved into Infoseek Search in February 1995. Its prominence grew when it became the default search engine[1] on Netscape Navigator. The company went public in June 1996, trading on Nasdaq at $12 per share. By September 1997, it had 7.3 million monthly visitors. After its demise, its Ultraseek Server software technology[2] was sold to Inktomi and renamed Inktomi Enterprise Search. Today, while the Infoseek brand[4] is no longer used in North America, it continues to exist in Australia and Japan. The infoseek.com domain now redirects to go.com.
Infoseek (also known as the "big yellow") was an American internet search engine founded in 1994 by Steve Kirsch.
