Facebook[4] Slingshot is a mobile application that was developed as a competitor to Snapchat[5]. Launched by Facebook, this application reimagines the concept of messagerie instantanée[1] by requiring an action, specifically a reply, to unlock and view incoming messages. This novel approach was designed to encourage interactivity[2] amongst users. Although compared to Snapchat due to its ephemeral nature of content, Slingshot attempted to carve its own identity, presenting itself as more than just a clone of the popular médias sociaux[3] platform. However, Facebook Slingshot was shuttered along with other applications from Facebook’s Creative Labs. Despite its closure, Slingshot played a significant role in the evolution of social media platforms, pushing boundaries and testing new concepts in digital communication.

Définitions des termes
1. messagerie instantanée. Instant Messaging (IM) is a digital communication method that enables real-time transmission of text-based messages over internet or computer networks. Unlike email, IM facilitates immediate, interactive conversation, often enhanced with emojis, file transfers, voice-over IP, and video chat. IM systems can function independently or as part of a larger social media platform. They have evolved significantly since early systems like Talkomatic and CompuServe CB Simulator, developing into graphical user interfaces with a wide range of features. Today's popular services, including Signal, Telegram, WhatsApp, and Snapchat, offer private and group messaging, advanced security measures such as end-to-end encryption, and integration with social networks. They play a vital role in both personal communication and business environments, facilitating effective real-time communication with conversation records for future reference.
2. interactivity. Interactivity is a term used to describe the symbiosis between humans and technology, or humans and other humans, through exchange of information. This concept is fundamental in various fields such as human communication, computing science, web design, and artifact communication. It includes human interactions like exchanging messages and understanding body language. In the technology realm, interactivity implies how systems like computers respond to human actions and tasks. For example, a website might have features like hyperlinks and multimedia displays to facilitate user interaction. In artifact communication, interactivity is the relationship between the user and the functionality of the artifact. Therefore, interactivity is a central component in creating a dynamic exchange of information in both human and technological interactions.
